To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Optometry IT Service Technician opportunity, you will have:
  • Associates degree in IT or a technical field, or equivalent experience
  • Must have a higher-level understanding of networking and connectivity required, with an ability to implement customized solutions to issues customers are facing.
  • Must understand, or be able to quickly learn, Optometric and Finishing systems equipment, and be able to work through any IT issues that customers may be experiencing.
  • Required to have a high-level mastery of basic IT principles and possess a strong mastery and working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Windows, Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), SAP, Microsoft Dynamics GP, Networking TCP/IP.
  • Ability to install, repair, service, test and troubleshoot equipment
  • Possess basic computer skills; understanding of basic Networking, TCP/IP protocols
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as schematics, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and all IT-related connectivity
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and diagnostic skills
  • Working knowledge of the equipment needed for the job
  • Ability to work independently without much supervision
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job which include bending, lifting equipment up to 150 pounds and stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to effectively manage time
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
While performing the duties of this job, you may be required to stand for prolonged periods of time. You also will need to be able to lift and move equipment weighing from 70 - 150 pounds occasionally.

Reporting to a Technical Support Supervisor, as Optometry IT Service Technician, you will be responsible for providing Level 2 IT support to customers, Practice Management Systems (PMS) representatives, and Field Support Technicians at all stages of from configuration to implementation and beyond.

Based in our Chicago offices and warehouse, you will support highly technical optometrical configuration equipment from its pre-configuration warehouse arrival to post-deployment troubleshooting and support. Initially, you will focus on a major deployment to sites across the U.S. You will spend the majority of your time on system setup, configuring equipment when it arrives from our factory in France. Systems will already have customer protocols and some installed software, but you will customize the equipment, adding additional configurations and specific programs, and preparing it for deployment. Quick question for you - click here

As part of additional essential duties and responsibilities, you will:
  • Setup and pre-configuration of Optometric equipment and connectivity for equipment to be placed in the customers store locations.
  • Provide operational, maintenance and troubleshooting training to customers.
  • Assist with transport of equipment from the Stereo Optical office to SDV warehouse.
  • Assist customers with IT-related issues.
  • Communicate with customers to help them understand how to address both mechanical and IT-related issues they are experiencing with their equipment.
  • Handle customer equipment problems that appear to arrive from the use of the product.
  • Handle requests for replacing defective parts.
  • Provide trade show support to include set-up of equipment and connectivity, tear down and sales support during show hours.
  • Communicate with Technical Support Manager regarding problems that arise from engineering, production or end user.
  • Complete, maintain and process pertinent paperwork.
  • Represent the company in the appropriate manner in the industry including timeliness, personal habits and appearance.
  • Keep management informed of significant issues.
  • Assist in the final testing of product upgrades and of new products.
  • Provides phone support, respond to customer inquiries via telephone, fax and by mail in a timely manner.
  • Record daily contacts in our Service Management Software.
  • Travel to customer locations for installations as needed, training and service.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by Manager.
